1. The cable company has very old tech and is poor and will go out of business if forced to continue analog locals until 2012. These companies can petition the FCC to allow all digital service but must offer a cable box that can tune the locals at no extra fee for current analog basic customers. Is the end result supposed to be just 1 big avi file? Wondering how to end up with a seperate avi file for each episode.
Fair Use does detect all the episodes separately, I select the separate episodes instead of the 1 big selection. Still end up with 1 avi file.

Maybe something will turn up.... x264 -- during play the video gets currupted in some scenes - I'm not offended whether you like x264 or not. I personally don't use it since it doesn't fit my needs, but I can see how it can be very useful otherwise. But corrupt streams are something I've never seen from it.
Glad it worked with another player. And it could indeed be VLC since there are two other similar "hiccups" I've discovered otherwis ... DVD w/ two versions (theatrical and unrated)... problem - smartripper did the magic.
Ripped vob's with DVDFab and smartripper let me choose version I want to encode. I didn't know how to set all those options in Settings tab so I left them at default. Fast, also, since it reads vob files from folder not disc.

The problem with running windows on a Mac is the same as running it on a PC. Both Vista and XP are horrible, nasty, tedious, disorganized monsters designed to waste as much of your time as possible doing everything but what you're intent on. :x... VirtualVCR help - if you got a video card with audio inputs (it's trendy these days)
you best connect your wires directly to you audio card to avoid dropped frames
As for Virtual vcr there are options in the audio tab to solve the issue (resample dynamically seems the best way)... Subtitles and NTSC -> PAL Video Conversion ? - Thanks everyone - just finished a recode to PAL using AVI2DVD and the subtitles file - output is really rather good and the default screen sizing is fine for my needs :)

Just search for DVD to AVI in the How To.... Samsung DVD-V9800 region hack confusion, misunderstanding? - You are in an NTSC country, obviously using an NTSC DVD player, and watching on an NTSC TV. PAL has NOTHING to do with region coding. You are trying to play a DVD for PAL system (Europe, China) which will not play in an NTSC-only DVD player, regardless of the region hack of your DVD player.
