Samsung DVD-V9800 region hack confusion, misunderstanding? - You are in an NTSC country, obviously using an NTSC DVD player, and watching on an NTSC TV. PAL has NOTHING to do with region coding. You are trying to play a DVD for PAL system (Europe, China) which will not play in an NTSC-only DVD player, regardless of the region hack of your DVD player. Also, you run the risk of wrecking the firmware and v ...

DVD to XviD Conversion - What about the DGMPGDec ? I have the latest and greatest, and I wasn't too sure there either. You said you were surprised about people using it? Deinterlacing - Clearing a few things up - OP said: "Although as soon as I re-encode it, the fields show at different times and it gives the video a "scanline-ghosting" effect." My guess would be that whatever he/she is useing to re-encode, is flipping the fields. Check the options for that program. Don't remember offhand what field comes first A or B , but I do know they are differe ...

Testing with a digital converter box on a cable system. - Unencryptic QAM is the proper road to take if a cable company wants to free-up band width for more HD channels and other video services. But a handfull of bigboys control 70% of the cable tv market, and they have the scale to bring significant new dollars to the bottom line thru set-top and DVR rental fees, etc. I think their ultimate goal is all n ...

Apple pushes anti-virus for Macs - Bulletproof, no. But i stopped buying antivirus software years ago after years of nothing but false positives and have never been infected with anything. Every issue i've ever seen discussed or reported on Mac security websites has never actually amounted to anything in my real world either because it only affected systems in very specific circ ...

slow playback on 1080p videos with COREAVC - Go with MPC 's decoder. Ive been using it with all x264, and VC1 playback and getting full DXVA with 20% cpu on 720p, and 40ish on 1080p, and not one single hitch. Why are you getting such high CPU usage with DXVA enabled? I get 1 or 2 percent (Q6600 CPU, Nvidia 8600GT) playing any h.264 HD content. The CPU usage you're reporting is what you ...

Philips 5990 quick review/impressions. - I bought one too! I admit the USB was the deciding factor, since I burn a lot of RW discs for my own use, and thought this would be better! HOWEVER, I'm a MAC user, and the flash drive doesn't like my AVI files so I erased it and tried again - the files copied fine, but once in the DVD player it said the drive was "empty" waaaaaah!!! Is there a w ...

Annoying VMR9 Issue with Hi-Def WMV9 and MPG2 Files (Dropping Frames) - Hey fellas, I posted this on the forum as well, so some of you may have seen the following, verbatim. So just letting ya'll know, im not a bot :D Anyone know why this is happening? With x264/h264 its fine, but these formats, while in sync and watchable, stutter from time to time and drop frames, and its not completely smooth. Im using Kmplay ...

Avidemux profile for QuickTime - By default, Avidemux makes an mp4 with an AVC level 5. That's too high for quicktime to handle. Quicktime prefers level 3.0 or so. Probably the easiest way to create a compliant quicktime mp4 with Avidemux, is to use the PSP template, then edit the resolution and settings. ...

Converting a Video_TS folder into AVI - Are you trying to encode from a VIDEO_TS file on a DVD, as opposed to one on the hard disk? Ffmpegx will not operate on a DVD directly, even if it's unencrypted. Is your goal to create a duplicate DVD, or is it to convert to DivX? If the latter, then I recommend using D-Vision , which will operate directly from a DVD. If your goal is to co ...
